Background

    Michael Finley has led a Turner Foundation project the incredible biological diversity in the DMZ, including facilitating a process with the North and South Korean governments to transition the DMZ from its current status to an International Peace Park. In this capacity the Foundation has undertaken several initiatives to establish working relationships with the DPRK and will continue with additional projects to build trust and understanding.

Biography

    Michael V. Finley is the President of the Turner Foundation, an environmental grant-making foundation that has supported hundreds of grass-roots and national organizations, and which focuses in the areas of water protection and reducing toxic impacts on the environment; improving air quality through the promotion of energy efficiency and renewables; addressing climate change and protecting biodiversity through habitat preservation. He is also the Steering-Committee Co-Chair of the Energy Future Coalition (EFC), a broad-based non-partisan alliance that seeks to bridge the differences among business, labor and environmental groups and identify energy policy options with broad political support. Mr. Finley's role at the Turner Foundation follows a 39 year career in the National Park Service that included serving as Superintendent of Assateague Island National Seashore, Everglades National Park, Yosemite and Yellowstone National Parks. He also served in Washington, DC, where he was a staff park ranger in the Ranger Activities Division and a legislative affairs specialist. He has received numerous awards in his career, including a National Park Service Superior Performance award and awards from conservation groups such as Conservationist of the Year from the Florida Audubon Society and Distinguished Public Service Awards from American Rivers, Defenders of Wildlife and the Wyoming Wildlife Federation.
