PRC Commerce Ministry's Statement on China-North Korea SEZ Meeting

On August 14, officials from China and North Korea convened in Beijing to discuss the development and management of the Rason and Hwanggumphyong and  Wihwa Islands Special Economic Zones in North Korea. The DPRK delegation was led by Jang Song-taek. The Chinese Commerce Ministry said in a statement that

The two sides agreed that with the joint efforts by the two Governments and enterprisesof the two countries, the cooperation in developing the two economic zones has yielded impressive results and entered the stage of substantial development. The two sides have jointly done the planning that will contribute to new progress in establishing mechanisms, training personnel, compiling detailed plans, laws and regulations, making customs clearance convenient, establishing telecom links, cooperating in agriculture fields, as well as building projects. Government of DPRK has done revision of Law of Rason Economic and Trade Zone, and formulated Law of the Hwanggumphyong and Wihwa Islands Economic Zone.
