NCNK Issue Brief Notes from Senate Foreign Relations Committee March 1 2011 Hearing Notes
On March 1, 2011 the Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a hearing, “Breaking the Cycle of North Korean Provocations.” A video of the hearing is available at http://foreign.senate.gov/hearings/hearing/?id=e85bfd8f-5056-a032-528b-0969fbfd6ecc. The first panel witnesses were The Honorable Kurt Campbell and The Honorable Stephen Bosworth. The second panel witnesses were Mr. L. Gordon Flake, Dr. Marcus Noland and Mr. Robert Carlin. In addition to Chairman John Kerry and Ranking Minority Richard Lugar, the first panel was attended by Senator Jim Risch and Senator Marco Rubio. These notes provide brief summaries of the key questions asked by members of the Committee during the first panel; in most cases the witness’ response is included. They do not cover the second panel.
