Kim Jong Un's Letter of Thanks to Party and Youth League Organizations

Pyongyang, May 28 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, sent a letter of thanks on Tuesday to the party and youth league organizations that have trained young people into the vanguard of the era possessed of ennobling spirit and virtues.

The full text of the letter of thanks is as follows:

The Second National Conference of Exemplary Young People of Virtue held recently demonstrated fully the revolutionary features and mettle of the young people of Korea who are preparing themselves to be reliable successors to the revolutionary cause of Juche and performing feats in the building of a thriving country as frontrunners and shock brigade under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Seeing those attending the conference and having a photo session with them, I keenly realized once again how great and precious are the exploits of Comrades Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, who brought up such a legion of trustworthy, commendable and formidable young people and provided a brilliant solution to the youth problem for the first time in history.

In the whole course of leading the revolution for a long period the great leaders put forward young people as a main-force unit of the revolution and brought them up as reliable young vanguard of the Workers' Party of Korea. Under their warm care higher than the sky and deeper than the sea, a great programme of attaching importance to young people was provided and a youth power the like of which cannot be found elsewhere in the world has emerged on this land.

Looking at the thousands of young people who were raising cheers that rent heaven and earth, I felt an inexhaustible strength and courage soaring in my body as if I had won the world, and my conviction in final victory grew firmer.

Sure enough, the loyalty of the young people who place their absolute trust in our Party and follow it is incomparably intense.

The ennobling spiritual world and laudable deeds of the young people, who are exalting the honour of being frontrunners in defending and glorifying our style of socialism true to the great leaders' instructions and cause, are more valuable than a mountain of gems, and the growth of these young people is associated with the unassuming devoted efforts of Party and youth league organizations.

Bearing in mind the Party's instruction that the whole country will become astir and a revolutionary upsurge be brought about on all fronts of building a thriving socialist country only when young people are in high spirits, Party and youth league organizations at all levels, including the central and provincial committees, have done their all to consolidate the youth league, a precious wealth bequeathed to us by the great leaders, and to ensure that young people exalt the brilliance of their youth as the generation of their parents did.

Attending the recent conference were not only those exemplary in defending the leader to the death and those who devoted themselves without hesitation for society, the collective and their comrades and volunteered to work at challenging and labour-intensive posts at the call of the Party, but also those who had broken away with their undignified past and made a new start of their life. They were so laudable and praiseworthy that I felt like embracing all of them.

In particular, the laudable deeds of the 20-year-old "girl mother," who is looking after seven orphans with maternal affection in the prime of her life, move all the people.

Having left the capital city of Pyongyang to work at the remote power station construction sites, cooperative farms, fishery stations and new development sites, volunteered to teach at schools in hard-of-access mountain villages and far-flung islands, donated their blood and skin unhesitatingly to others and become eternal life companions of honoured disabled soldiers, these young people only regard their deeds as a high honour and pride in youth. As we have such a large contingent of virtuous young people, our revolutionary ranks are advancing more vigorously even in the face of difficulties and our great socialist family is brimming over with warm feelings.

The unstained and sincere spiritual world of our young people, who are more concerned with state affairs than they are with their family affairs, think about the interests of society and their collective before their own, love others boundlessly and regard others' pain as their own, has been cultivated in the embrace of the Workers' Party of Korea and brought into efflorescence under the guidance and with the help of the organizations of Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League.

That young people have been brought up as beautiful flowers of the country and nation, as paragons of socialist morality, and a conference of these young people was held amid the blessing of the whole country–this is a wonderful event that can be witnessed in the era of the Workers' Party of Korea that has set the principle of attaching importance to young people as its and the Korean revolution's eternal strategic line and in our country, the one and only youth power in the world.

Although imperialists are making frantic efforts to degenerate even our young people while trying to deprave humanity by means of all sorts of injustice and avarice and poison their future, the Songun-based culture of our young people permeated with the clean spirit of Mt. Paektu is demonstrating its true features to the whole world. This is a great victory of our Party's Juche idea and policy of attaching importance to young people and a sweeping triumph of the revolutionary ideology and culture which prevails over the reactionary ideology and culture.

The present era is producing a great number of exemplary young people of virtue who impress the world as the young pacesetters in the Chollima era in the 20th century did. This is because Party and youth league organizations have, by consistently adhering to the Party's policy of conducting education by means of positive examples, ensured that all young people, who have grown up in the embrace of the socialist motherland, take their positions in the ranks advancing straight forward following the Party and led them to enjoy the invaluable glory of life.

I am satisfied that our Party and youth league officials are devoting efforts to tending the garden of virtues with all sincerity true to the Party's idea of attaching importance to young people, and highly appreciate them with a warm heart. In the name of the First Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, I offer warm thanks and comradely greetings to the Party and youth league organizations that have trained frontrunners of the times who are possessed of ennobling spirit and virtues.

Our Party attaches great importance to the work with young people and firmly believes in them.

At present the People's Army which is defending the trench in the first line of the Songun-based revolution is a group of young people, and the vanguard and shock brigade that are performing feats in all the difficult and labour-intensive sectors of building a thriving country and that are going beyond the cutting edge are also composed of young people.

When young people are powerful, our Party and People's Army are powerful and there is nothing for us to be afraid of.

At the recent conference our Party advanced before the exemplary young people of virtue and others across the country the militant task of devoting their youth to the revolution and performing remarkable feats in the vanguard of the general offensive for hastening final victory by carrying forward the proud traditions of the Korean youth movement pioneered in Paektu.

The ideals, ambition, enthusiasm and vigour of young people will be truly meaningful and honourable only when they are associated with the requirements of the revolution and the progress of the country, and it is none other than Party and youth league organizations that are duty-bound to help and lead them to bring these beautiful traits into efflorescence.

Nothing will be beyond our reach when we make the flames of creating positive deeds flare up across the country with the virtues of the young vanguard as the initial spark and bring into full play the mounting vigour of the millions of young people.

I stress once again that all Party and youth league organizations in the country, upholding the great General's idea of attaching importance to the Party, the army and young people, should spare no effort to develop the work with young people as it is a serious matter that has a bearing on the future of our socialist motherland.

Party organizations at all levels should attach as great importance to the work with young people as they do to Party work, give prominence to youth league organizations and throw their full weight behind them so that they can fulfil their militant functions and role.

The organizations and officials of the Party should always use their brains and make strenuous efforts to educate young people, pay due concern to enhancing the independence and creativity of their organizations, and help them in every way possible so that they can perform meritorious deeds with great verve.

The nourishment for training young people into the point-men and flank of the Songun-based revolution is our Party's revolutionary ideology.

Youth league organizations should implant the revolutionary spirit of Paektu, the spirit of the blizzards of Paektu, in the red hearts of their members and inspire them with enthusiasm for the revolution and struggle, thereby encouraging them to valiantly volunteer to work in the hard, challenging sectors.

There is no person who was born with bad qualities, nor is there a young person who cannot be educated and remoulded by the concerted efforts of the collective.

Youth league organizations should strive to find out and generalize positive deeds in accordance with the psychological features of young people who have a high sense of justice and strong desire for beautiful traits, and make painstaking efforts to educate and remould laggards, so as to steadily increase the ranks of exemplary young people of virtue.

The officials of youth league organizations, fully aware that they are responsible for the work with young people, should build up their organizations into efficient combat units as intended by the Party and conduct ideological education in a youthful, novel and aggressive manner, with the main emphasis put on education in the greatness of the leaders, Kim Jong Il's patriotism, faith, anti-imperialist and class consciousness and morality.

They should ensure that the period of youth is turned into a course of a revolutionary school so that all young people cherish their forerunners' motto that one must keep the revolutionary faith to the death, establish a revolutionary way of supporting the Party's leadership in the vanguard and cultivate ennobling moral traits.

The youth league should work out a proper curriculum for the revolutionary school so as to bring up all young people into true human beings as wished by the Party, into fine human beings in the Songun era.

Always keeping in mind the heavy duty they have assumed before the times and the revolution, all the youth league officials should intensify their ideological training, studies and moral cultivation to become teachers of the revolutionary school competent enough to educate and remould young people and organize and enlist them.

It is the firm determination and will of the Party Central Committee to believe in young people and help them put up the doorplate of a thriving country before anyone else.

Wherever there are young people and wherever socialist construction is under way, flags of the youth league and youth shock brigades should flutter in the blizzards of Mt Paektu, the valour and spirit of going through fire and water to remove mountains and seas all at once should be demonstrated, and love for human beings should be brought into full blossom in answer to the Party's appeal.

In the future I will visit the units that have produced exemplary young people of virtue, and meet and encourage them.

The youth league should finish, by the 70th anniversary of Party founding, the construction of the Paektusan Songun Youth Power Station the General assigned to it, to create an eternal wealth of the country and set up a monument to youth in the Paektu area that can be handed down generation after generation. By doing so, they can brilliantly implement the instructions of the General and demonstrate to the whole world the proud construction history of its one and only youth power.

I firmly believe that Party and youth league organizations across the country will ensure that the pure hearts of the millions of young people of Korea burn for the sake of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and give full play to their inexhaustible spiritual strength, so as to greet the 70th anniversary of Party founding with fresh successes in the work with young people and celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League next year as a grand youth festival of the powerful Paektusan nation.
