The sudden announcement of the upcoming U.S.-North Korea summit has been widely received as a welcomed change from the Trump administration’s focus in recent months on military options against North Korea. While the White House has stressed that the summit will be a forum for talks and not negotiations, Trump must still come to the table with a realistic diplomatic strategy. Such a framework would help to ensure any resulting negotiations lead to positive outcomes not only for Washington and its allies, but also for the other interested parties.
Please join KEI and East Asia expert Dr. Stephen Blank for a discussion of his proposal for a U.S. diplomatic program intended to lead to the stabilization of Northeast Asia and advance shared American, South Korean, and Japanese objectives by prioritizing the regional security aspects of the North Korea challenge.
