While Covid-19 pandemic brought significant changes in international politics in 2020, the US administration of President Joe Biden was inaugurated in January 2021. Since President Biden and his key staffs working on foreign policy and national security are emphasizing ‘Strengthening the Alliance’, it is expected that the prospect of Biden’s policy toward North Korea will be different from that of Trump administration. There is an expectation that the Biden administration will respect the position of allies including South Korea and Japan, and that the room for inter-Korean dialogue will be widened. Meanwhile, there are also concerns that the stalemate between the US and North Korea will continue if the new US administration rejects the Singapore Declaration and avoids the top-down or bilateral engagement between two countries. Therefore, strategic communication and coordination between ROK and the US during the early stage of the Biden administration is necessary. In this context, the Ministry of Unification will hold a ‘ROK-US North Korea Experts Discussion’ to discuss about what we learn from the past US - DPRK nuclear negotiations. In this webinar, the Ministry of Unification invites the veterans from Korea and the US, who have contributed to the settlement of peace on the Korean Peninsula, to listen to their experiences and wisdom to draw implications for the solution to the US-NK negotiation to drive the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.
