This session is part of the 2020 Jeju Forum For Peace and Prosperity. The discussion will make the case for focusing on a post-pandemic strategy of building back better by strengthening the capacity and resiliency of the North Korean health system and fostering sustainable food security as the foundation and new era of multi-stakeholder engagement with North Korea. This will involve an overview of the post-pandemic political and economic challenges facing human security in North Korea and the international community, assessments of the lessons of the pandemic for North Korea’s health system resiliency, what it would take to provide sustainable food security for the North Korean people, and what policies related to sanctions and technical and financial assistance would be required.
