John Merrill is a Visiting Scholar at Institute of Korean Studies, George Washington University and an Adjunct Professor in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. He retired from the State Department as chief of INR’s Northeast Asia Division. Merrill has held teaching and research positions at George Washington University, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Lafayette College, the University of Delaware, and Korea University. He is the author of Korea: The Peninsular Origins of the War, 1945-1950 (University of Delaware Press, 1989) and numerous journal articles and reviews.
