Issue Brief: Korean War POW/MIA Accounting Efforts

December 14, 2018

NCNK has released a revised and updated edition of its Issue Brief on the efforts to recover and identify the remains of American service members killed or missing in the Korean War.

This Issue Brief reviews the history of U.S. efforts to recover service members' remains from North Korea, including through joint recovery missions which took place from 1996-2005 and North Korea's repatriation of remains following the June 2018 summit between the two countries' leaders. It also looks at efforts to identify the remains in U.S. custody, and to conduct other cooperative efforts in South Korea, China, and Russia to learn about the fate of unaccounted for service members.

The Issue Brief is available here.
