Six Party Talks
The State Department held this special briefing to announce that the United States and the DPRK had reached agreement on a verification protocol. As a result of the agreement, the Secretary of State rescinded the designation of North Korea as a State Sponsor of Terror.
This four page verification discussion paper, offered by the US government for consideration by the DPRK in the summer of 2008, was posted online by the Washington Post in September 2008.
This report was submitted to the relevant Senate and House Committees on July 15, 2008, as required by section 1405 of the Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2008 (P.L. 110-252).
At this Heads of Delegation meeting, the six parties agreed that "In accordance with the Joint Statement of the Six-Party Talks adopted on 19 September 2005, the six parties agreed to establish a verification mechanism within the Six-Party Talks framework to verify the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."
